Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at mfoster@harlemga.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Our museum is open from 10:30 am to 4pm Tuesday thru Saturday except for national holidays or in the case of emergencies.

Admission is free.

Donations require a series of steps in order for the museum to accept a donation. The object will need to be seen and, if approved, donation and Deed of Gift paperwork will need to be completed. Reach out to Meghan at mfoster@harlemga.org for more information about donating historic items.

Loans require a series of steps in order for the museum to accept a loan. The object will need to be seen and, if the object fits into our collection and is approved, loan paperwork will need to be completed. Loans will need to be renewed each year. Reach out to Meghan at mfoster@harlemga.org for more information about loaning historic items.

It is against the Harlem Museum and Welcome Center's policy to return objects once they have been donated as it is not considered ethical or best practice in the museum field. Since museums are held in the public trust there can be issues of the donor having already received the benefit of a tax-deductible donation, and the question of who the proper recipient of the object might be if the original donor has passed away. Additionally, if the museum were to be seen as returning objects to donors, one might anticipate heirs requesting the return of objects of great sentimental or monetary value. Once donated, you no longer own the object.
